Dr Ngozi Uzomah

About

Dr. Ngozi Uzomah is affiliated with the Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He holds a Ph.D. in Population Geography and currently serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) for UNN on the Horizon Europe project GAPs: Decentring the Study of Migrant Returns and Return Policies in Europe and Beyond. His research expertise spans cross-border migration, forced displacement, return migration, refugee studies, and migration governance. Dr. Uzomah has published widely on migration within the ECOWAS region, challenges surrounding the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the use of EU-funded border technologies in Africa, and Nigerian perspectives on the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum. His academic work also engages with broader themes of climate change, food security, and household adaptation strategies. Beyond academia, he has served as a consultant to the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC), focusing on conflict and smuggling in the Nigeria–Cameroon borderlands, and to the University of West Bohemia in Czechia on displacement and insecurity in the Lake Chad region. He is also a member of Nigeria’s Technical Working Group (TWG) on Migration Governance, contributing his expertise to national policy development in the field. Dr. Uzomah is actively engaged in several academic and professional associations, including the Association for the Promotion of African Studies (APAS), the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration (IASFM), and the Association for Borderlands Studies (ABS). He is also affiliated with the Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG), the Population Association of America (PAA), the Migration-Control.info West Africa Working Group, and the International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe (IMISCOE) network. His work reflects a sustained commitment to addressing the complex realities of migration, return, and transnational governance from both scholarly and applied perspectives.
